HRH Crown Princess Katherine opens sensory room worth €9000 and visited General Hospital in Vrsac
Belgrade, 28 March 2013- Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Katherine together with Mr. Michael Garfinkel grandson of The Royal Couple officially opened a sensory room in the Special school "Jelena Varjaski" for children with autism in Vrsac in the presence of Municipality and School officials today.
The Sensory room donation worth €9000 was made possible with the cooperation and the help of the organization Femmes d’Europe and HRH Crown Princess Katherine Humanitarian Foundation.
Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Katherine was warmly welcomed by Mr. Dusan Milic, School Principal, Mr. Mirko Dobrosavljevic, member of the Municipal Council and Mrs. Snezana Ruzic, Municipal Council member in charge for education in city of Vrsac, the staff and children.
Her Royal Highness emphasized: "It is a pleasure to be here today for such a special occasion and officially open this beautiful sensory room that was donated thanks to Femme d’ Europe from Brussels and Her Royal Highness Princess Sibilla of Luxembourg initiative to help improve the care of children in Serbia. My grandson Michael Garfinkel is here with me today. He came together with his friends from the United States for this event in order to encourage people when they go back to help Serbia. The Joint effort of good people always bring results. Dear children my husband, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Alexander, and I always have you in our hearts.”
The sensory room in Serbia helps in medical care and education of children with autism, learning dissabilities and special needs. It helps them explore and develop their senses and skills. The multi-sensory room has interactive equipment which makes dramatic changes to the sensory room environment using sound, lighting and fragrance.
Her Royal Highness also visited the General Hospital in Vrsac and delivered medical material and wheelchairs for the patients in the presence of Dr. Sredoje Djuric, Director of General Hospital and Mrs.Natasa Conic, city assembly member in charge for health in city of Vrsac and medical staff.
Her Royal Highness Princess Katherine has been helping Serbia for over two decades through numerous humanitarian activities in the country and abroad developing international relations, education of doctors trough symposiums and conferences and the donation of medical equipment.
