Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine officially opened the sixth “Serbian Medical Diaspora Conference 2015” today at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Belgrade.

The official opening was attended by HE Dr. Zlatibor Loncar, Minister of Health of Serbia, His Grace Bishop Arsenije of Toplica, vicar Bishop of the Patriarch of Serbia Irinej, Dr MIljana Grbic, director of the WHO Office in Serbia, Mr. Aleksandar Vlajkovic from the Office for Cooperation with the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region, Dr Vesna Jovanovic, director of Serbian Medical Chamber, Prof. Dr. Nebojsa Lalic, Dean of the Medical Faculty, University of Belgrade, HE Mr Heinz Wilhelm, Ambassador of Germany, HE Mr Denis Keefe, Ambassador of the United Kingdom, HE Mr Philip Pinnington, Ambassador of Canada, as well as the representatives of the Lifeline USA and Lifeline Canada Medical Boards, lecturers and participants from Serbia and abroad.

The Sixth “Serbian Medical Diaspora Conference 2015” is taking place from June 18 to June 20 in Belgrade, under auspices of Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine, and is organized by HRH Crown Princess Katherine Foundation and Lifeline Humanitarian Organizations, with support from the Ministry of Health of Serbia, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Office for Cooperation with the Diaspora and Serbs in the region, Medical Faculty of Belgrade University, University Children Hospital in Belgrade and the World Health Organization (WHO).

HRH Crown Prince Alexander addressed the participants and guests saying: “I am very proud of my wife and her Foundation for organizing this important conference for the sixth time. It is a great task and even a greater success to organize an important event such as the Serbian Diaspora Medical Conference. I am particularly happy to see that our doctors from abroad and our doctors from Serbia have shown such great interest in these gatherings.“

HRH Crown Princess Katherine welcomed the guests and emphasized: “We, who are present here, should make a contribution to make the health care system in Serbia better, more effective and more accessible to all our citizens. This collaborative effort will bring a better future for our country. This country needs you, as well as your knowledge, and our people thank you for your willingness to help. Serbia has a successful tradition in medical science. We have great quality doctors. The importance of international cooperation and continuous training is crucial. I would like to thank our partners: His Excellency the Minister of Health Dr Zatibor Loncar, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Office for the Diaspora, Medical Faculties in Belgrade, University Children’s Hospital „Tiršova“ and the World Health Organization (WHO)”, said Crown Princess Katherine.

The participants were also addressed by HE Dr. Zlatibor Loncar, Minister of Health of Serbia, Dr Vesna Jovanovic, director of Serbian Medical Chamber, Dr MIljana Grbic, director of the WHO Office in Serbia and Prof. Dr. Nebojsa Lalic, Dean of the Medical Faculty, University of Belgrade.

The Sixth “Serbian Medical Diaspora Conference” is covering a wide area of medical sciences, especially focusing on pediatrics, oncology and surgery. Lecturers and moderators are the most prominent medical experts from Serbia and abroad. This year over five hundred doctors are participating at the Conference.

The aim of the conference is to improve cooperation between doctors in Serbia and doctors of Serbian origin working abroad, with institutions and individuals who are essentially important for the quality of medical care in Serbia, as well as networking among Serbian intellectual community.

As part of today’s conference Crown Princess Katherine’s Foundation together with Mrs Kathy Fanslow,  president of Lifeline Chicago donated medical equipment worth 3,300 € to the Health Centre Arilje. On behalf of the Health Centre the donation was received by the director Dr. Ivana Antovic.

Please note that the Sixth Serbian Medical Diaspora conference will be held in Belgrade June 18 – June 20, 2015.
