His Royal Highness Crown Prince Alexander II accompanied by Mr Dragomir Acovic, Chairman of the Crown Council, after returning from Marseille where they took part by the invitation of the government of France at Commemorative ceremony on the 80th Anniversary of assassination of HM King Alexander I and former French Foreign Minister Monsieur Louis Barthou, laid a wreath this afternoon at the tomb of his grandfather at the Royal Mausoleum at St. George Church in Oplenac. The Crown Prince afterwards together with HRH Crown Princess Katherine, hosted the opening of the exhibition on the occasion of this tragic anniversary at the Royal Palace in Belgrade.

His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia also attended the ceremony, as well as numerous members of the diplomatic corps, public and cultural life of Serbia.

Crown Prince Alexander II emphasized in his address: “My grandfather was essentially a soldier, almost always wearing his uniform. He did his best to draw the Balkan nations together and tried to strengthen our ties with the countries of Central Europe. I wish future generations of the Serbs remember HM King Alexander I as the heroic Commander in Chief of the Serbian Army in the First World War and as the man who dedicated his life to serving his people, by whose will he was the King”.

The author of the exhibition “80 years since assassination of HM King Alexander I” is Mr Dusan Babac, member of the Privy Council, while visitors will have a chance to see many unique exhibits that witness the times of reign of HM King Alexander I. There are several portraits of the late King, as well as an original film from 1934 about assassination and funeral of King Alexander I.

The “80 years since assassination of HM King Alexander I” exhibition will be open for visitors until Thursday, October 23, every working day at 11 am and visitors should announce their visit one day in advance by calling 011 306 4007 or by email to [email protected]
