THE COMMEMORATIVE MEDAL OF THE ACCESSION OF KING PETER I |
King Petar (Peter) I of Serbia instituted the
Medal on 8 August 1903; it was the first award introduced by the Karageorgevich
Dynasty of Serbia. Prince Petar Karageorgevich, who was living in Swiss
exile, was summoned to Belgrade where on 15 June 1903 the Serbian National
Assembly proclaimed his accession to the Throne.
The Commemorative Medal was awarded to members of the Government and
to the National Assembly members, as well as to the Army officers who were
on active duty at the time of the proclamation. Later, the Medal was also
conferred upon all reserve officers of the Army. The Author of the Medal was Djordje Jovanovic. The Medal was worn on
white ribbon edged blue and red. |
