THE COMMEMORATIVE MEDAL OF THE FIRST BALKAN WAR |
The Medal (Commonly known as "Medal for the
Liberated Kosovo") was founded on 31 October 1913 with intention to commemorate
the victorious end of the First Balkan War which brought as it's most important
result the liberation of Old Serbia (or Kosovo and Metohia) region. The
territory was divided between Serbia and Montenegro.
After the conclusion of the World War I, the Paris Peace Conference
of 1919 approved the creation of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes
(which was proclaimed on 1 December 1918). Prior to that unification, Kingdom
of Montenegro was united to the Kingdom of Serbia. The Medal was
awarded to officers, NCOs and enlisted men of the Serbian Army. It was
also bestowed upon civilian, medical and administrative personnel that
had taken part in the war against Turkey.
The Medal was worn on ribbon composed of six-times repeated tricolor
(red-blue-white). |
