THE COMMEMORATIVE CROSS OF THE SECOND BALKAN WAR (1913) |
The Cross was instituted on 25 November 1913
to commemorate short and victorious Second Balkan War against Bulgaria.
In 1912-1913 King Petar I instituted several awards aimed to recompense
bravery, loyal service and philanthropy, or commemorate important events.
The Cross is similar to the Commemorative Cross for War against Bulgaria
of 1885-6, with some significant and symbolic differences: the dull black
iron of the Cross commemorating the ill-fated War of 1885-6 was substituted
with shining gilded bronze, while mournful black ribbon with red edges
was changed for triumphal red ribbon edged black, testifying to the reversal
of the war fortunes. The Commemorative Cross was bestowed upon officers, NCOs and enlisted
men of the Serbian and Montenegrin armies, as well as upon civilian personnel
for merit and loyal service during the war. |
