TRH Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine attended the opening of the exhibition “80 Years Since the Opening of the Sokol Home, King Alexander I the Unifier” in Indjija. The exhibition was organized at the initiative of the Association “Kingdom of Serbia”, the Municipality of Indjija and the Indjija Cultural Center.
Following the founding of the Sokol Society “Serbian Sokols” on September 27th in 1905, the management of the Society made the decision on 6th of September 1936, on the day of the birth of HM King Peter II, to proceed with the construction of the Sokol Home in Indjija. In the same year, the Board decided that the Sokol Home will be named “King Alexander the Unifier” in special honour to HM King Alexander, worshiper of Sokols.
“The home took the name of my grandfather, HM King Alexander I, in gratitude for his great contribution to the work of the Sokol Union. The foundations of a successful future are always in a rich and proud past from which one has the strength and wisdom to learn lessons”, said His Royal Highness Crown Prince Alexander in his speech.
The attendees were also addressed by the President of the municipal assembly Milan Predojević, director of the Indjija Cultural Center Ruzica Jovanovic and author of the exhibition Vladimir Vukas.The exhibition consists of over 120 reproduced original photographs, sokol flags, sokol suits and clothing pieces, badges from landings from abroad and Yugoslavia, postcards, printed material and other documents borrowed from several different museums and private collections. The well-conceived exhibition is signed by the author, Mr. Vladimir Vukas, with the expert opinion of the head of the Serbian Sokol Association, Mr. Jevdje Jevdjevic.
By symbolically cutting the red ribbon, HRH Crown Prince Alexander marked the beginning of this significant exhibition.
