BLIC ZENA, 27.03.2006.
ONE OF US
EXCLUSEVLY HRH Crown Princess Katherine
Karadjordjevic
No vacation for the princess
When we got married, Alexander asked me
only two things: to love his sons and his country – said HRH Crown
Princess Katherine
When
the black limo arrived to pick us up, young army guardian at the main
entrance opened the massive gate of the Royal Compound on Dedinje. We
approached the Royal Palace (where Their Royal Highnesses live since the
summer 2001) through the huge park, with various buildings for army
guard and personal.
- Princess
Katherine will join you as soon as she finishes the important meeting –
told us people from PR office.
They are
showing us to the Blue Saloon with magnificent view of Avala and
Kosutnjak. At the same time, Crown Princess Katherine appeared from the
other room and greeted us warmly:
“Did you get
any refreshment?” she asked and asked for few more minutes. When she saw
a photographer, she charmingly apologized:
“Give me few
more minutes, just to put some make up”.
Then we
really noticed that Princess Katherine has no make up. Untill than we
saw that she is a strong, pemperate woman, eager to use every minute of
her time.
Ful time
“This
is the way it is, every day… Meetings through out the day”, she added
few minutes after she joined us.
Only moments
before that she completed an important meeting with Darinka Matic
Marovic, our famous choir conductor. Princess would like to send one of
our choirs abroad.
“This
country has great musicians and incredible talents”, she explained. “And
I think that culture can be the best medium to represent one nation”.
The Royal
Palace is the place where many artists were as guests to Their Royal
Highnesses.
“Alexander
loves Balkanika. They played here in july last year, for his birthday”,
told us Princess.
When we talk
about everyday activities, Princess Katherine emphasizes her
humanitarian work, that she has been involved with for 15 years now.
During the clashes in former Yugoslavia, Royal Couple organized great
number of humanitarian deliveries to all the people in need, regardless
their ethnic or religious origin.
In August
2001, when Karadjordjevic family members (www.royalfamily.org) oficialy
became inhabitants of Serbia and Montenegro, Foundation of HRH Crown
Princess Katherine was established (www.pkfond.org), and humanitarian
activities organized by Princess Katherine expanded even more.
Dinner for
incubators
“Ministry of
health appointed me for a main coordinator of Humanitarian help raising
for Serbia and Montenegro and I accepted my role very seriously”, said
Princess.
Her
Foundation is helping to the public health, children, old people,
refugees…
“Right now
we are in the Campaign for modernization of neonatal centres in Serbia.
That is one way to give support to young couples to start their own
family. It is necessary to have newborn babies in good conditions, with
good quality medical equipment in maternity wards”, says Princess.
She is proud
of humanitarian event that she organized this January in Athens. More
than 660.000 euros has been raised on a charity dinner in order to buy
incubators and additional equipment for neonatal centres in Niš,
Kragujevac, Novi Sad and Belgrade.
“We have
asked every couple on that dinner to donate a sum that is equivalent to
a value of one incubator. That was very brave move. Nothing like that
has been done in Greece before”, proudly says princess. “Dinner for two
had a value of 10.000 Euros!”
Childhood in
Greece
HRH Crown
Princess Katherine is coming from a very respectfull family from Greece.
She is daughter of Robert and Ana Batis. She grew in the house full of
love. She studied in Lozzane, Switzerland, Denver and Dallas USA.
- My oldest
sister Betty and I had a confortable life, but we have been raised in
that way that we know that there are people with less happiness – says
Princess Katherine. – Therefore, I have volontiered in orphanages while
I was on the high school.
For her
parents Princess says they were great philantrops.
- My need
for helping people, to care for others is something that I inherited. My
father, in cooperation with King of Greece founded a foundation that
gave to the widows with small children saving books to provide them with
some savings when there is a time for marriadge. That is very important
in Greece – explains Princess Katherine.
Life lasting
love
When she is
talking about her first meeting with Crown Prince Alexander, her voice
becomes softer and she turns into a simple wife, truly in love with her
husband. She admits that she felt in love for the first time in the age
of 39, when she met Alexander on a private dinner in Washington.
- His
charisma and sincereness were totally irrisistable for me – she
remembers.
When they
met, they both already had one marriage.
- I have son
David and daughter Allison from my first marriage. She gave me four
grandchildren: Amanda, Stefani, Nicholass and Michael – says the proud
grandmother. – It is now Davids turn to make me happy. He is currently
living in Athenes, where he remarried and promised me a grandchild. I
know that he will be a great father because he is now a perfect uncle.

Waiting
for Serbian daughter in law
Karadjordjevic family is happy when they are together, in
Dedinje compound. Katarina loves to spend time with princes
Peter, Filip and Alexander.
- They are wonderfull young man now,
handsome, smart, well educated and I hope that soon they will
introduce me to the future brides. My biggest wish for them is
to marry Serbian girls.
She
smiles and explains to us that it will not be difficult for them
to choose.
- I
keep hearing that Serbian girls are the most beautifull ones.
The only thing for us is to wait for nice Serbian princesses to
be brought to the Royal Compound. |
Alexander is a prince of my life
Crown Princess Katherine and Crown Prince Alexander will be
celebrating their 21st anniversary in September. They
got married in London back in 1985.
- I
am happy and proud to have such a husband. Alexander has an
extremely strong personality and he is my best advisor – she
emphasizes.
From
him she learned how to separate good from bad:
-
That is of extreme importance. It is not the titule that makes
the person. It is the person that makes titule. When you are at
home, you live with a man that you have chosen, not with the
crown. He is the prince of my life – says princess. |
