You should show respect
Written by: Novica Popovic
His Royal Highness Crown Prince Alexander II Karadjordjevic for “Kurir” speaks about the incident with the right wing extremists at the Gazimestan, he reveals details from the wedding of Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco and speaks about the possibility of a Serbian Royal wedding.
What are your impressions from Vidovdan celebration at Gazimestan? Your reaction was harsh towards inappropriate behavior of a group gathered there.
Of course people have the right to protest in a free democratic society, but respect to the memory and prayers at Gazimestan for our fallen Serbian hero warriors who lost their lives during the battle of Kosovo is very important particularly where were respecting the memory of Prince Lazar and the fallen great warriors.
Do you consider that your reaction was too harsh?
My reaction was appropriately strong to people who blatantly ignore that we must have discipline and mutual respect.
You and your wife Princess Katherine have recently attended the wedding of HSH Prince Albert from Monaco. What are your impressions?
My wife and I have a very positive impression and memories of this superb and beautiful wedding in such a lovely place. Prince Albert is the perfect host. It was so nice to come to the wedding and spend three fantastic days filled with joy with superb events.
What was your wedding gift for the newlyweds?
We gave the princely couple a private present.
During your stay in Monaco, did you speak to high representatives, including the French President Nicolas Sarkozy?
Sadly we did not have a chance to talk with President Sarkozy who left after the religious ceremony, but we did talk often with the King and Queen of the Belgium, the King and Queen of Sweden…
Could Serbian citizens soon expect a Royal Wedding? Your sons, Princes Peter, Philip and Alexander are of age to get married.
Not quite yet, but we all look forward to it.
When that time comes, will the wedding be as glamorous as ceremonies in European Royal Families?
We will do our best. We are very lucky in Serbia to have a beautiful country and place and the Serbian people are very hospitable and proud.
You will not present at the Wimbledon finals?
No, we have not been there, but we would have loved to have and been thrilled to have seen our great hero Nole win live on location the Wimbledon championship and become number one in the world. We were jumping up and down when Nole won, it was so absolutely incredible. Everyone around us was so impressed with Nole and we were so proud of being Serbian. |
