Crown Princess Katherine Karadjordjevic in Nis Princess
donated children’s hospital Humanitarian aid also distributed to
the refugees in Hotel Park During her two day visit Princess Katherine opened two renovated wards in the Special Psychiatric Clinic in Gronja Topanica near Nis and she gave special equipment to the laboratory of molecular biology, genetic immunology and pre-natal diagnostic unit at the Children’s Hospital in the clinical centre at Nis. She also visited refugees in Hotel Park in Nis. Upon arrival in Nis Princess Katherine was greeted by His Grace Bishop of Nis Irinej and he accompanied the Princess on her visit refugees from Croatia, Bosnia Herzegovina and Kosovo Metohija in Hotel Park. There the Princess met with 200 homeless people. In a cheerful atmosphere she spoke with young and old and she also distributed humanitarian aid to them. “We never forgot you. We sympathise with you. I am happy to see you and the lovely faces of the children. There will be more humanitarian aid but next time I hope to see you in your homes” Princess Katherine said. A reception was held in her honour in the City Hall of Nis. Princess Katherine was greeted by the Mayor of Nis, Mr Goran Ciric, the President of the Nis Municipality, Mr Vladimir Domazet, senior city officials as well as the respectable businessmen of the Nis region. The laboratory at the Children’s hospital in the Clinical Centre was opened officially yesterday. Princess Katherine was accompanied by Ms Isabel Goldsmith, the donator of the equipment for the Children’s Hospital. This aid is worth more than 500,000 DM.
“The specialized piece of equipment, ‘PS realtime’, is a
great achievement for the Clinic in the centre of Nis. It will help us in
detecting the possible genetic disorders of the unborn. We will be able to
detect illness in the earliest phase and to take preventive action, to
conduct different gene analysis and to diagnose. This is the most modern
piece of equipment in the world”, said by the assistant director of
clinical centre Nis Caca Zivic. Princess visited Gornja Topaonica In Gornja Topaonica at the Special Psychiatric Clinic Princess Katherine opened two renovated wards. She provided the means for their adaptation through humanitarian organizations Lifeline and Lotus Relief. During her visit Princess Katherine has distributed 20 tonnes of pasta, 6000 blankets, 5000 sweaters, food, sewing and knitting machines, wheelchairs, bicycles and toys. Princess Katherine organized the delivery of medicines and medical equipment for the Nis health system worth more than 1,850,000 DM. Princess Katherine Karadjordevic delivered aid to clinics and refugees in Nis. “The Royal Family has not forgotten you” Nis – “I am happy to be back in Nis to help you. I hope that soon I will be back in Belgrade with my children and my husband from where it will be easier for me to help those who need it” Princess Katherine said in Nis. After that she visited a Psychiatric Clinic for which help was provided through humanitarian organistations Lifeline and Lotus Relief.
