Mađarskoj (2001 -2003.) i šef protokola u završnoj fazi mandata bivšeg
organizacije prikupila 1,3 milijarde dolara. Od pre desetak dana je i ambasador
dobre volje Svetske zdravstvene organizacije za borbu protiv raka.

Karađorđevići u gostima kod Bajdena
Princ Aleksandar i princeza Katarina Karađorđević prisustvovali humanitarnoj

Predstavljajući gostima prestolonaslednika Aleksandra i njegovu suprugu
svojoj zemlji.
organizovanja humanitarnih trka.

lokalnom nivou.
Svečanom otvaranju prisustvovali: dr Džil Bajden, srpski Princ i Princeza,
ratnik“.
Dr Džil Bajden, dugogodišnji borac protiv raka dojke i supruga Potpredsednika
su zakoračili dr Bajden, ambasadorka Nensi Brinker, Nj.K.V. Prestolonaslednik
godinu, Sara Fought. Lalah Hathaway , pevačica i ambasadorka Komen fondacije,
uveličala je ceremoniju odavši pošu trkačima i šetačima. Vrhunac ceremonije bilo
lokalnoj zajednici u oblasti Vašingtona, uključujući delove Virdžinije i
Merilenda.
Preostalih 25% će otići u specijalni Suzana G. Komen fond koji finansira
programe u zajednici.

pokreta protiv rak dojke.

pokreta protiv rak dojke.
protiv raka dojke. Za dodatne informacije o Suzana G. Komen za lek organizaciji
ili o raku dojke posetite veb sajt www.komen.org ili pozovite 1-877-GO KOMEN

Biden's Standing Order
When it comes to the second-most powerful man in the land, we are advised not
to stand on ceremony. Literally.
"No one has to stand for the vice president," Vice President Biden told a
full house last night during a standing ovation, as he promptly advised his
guests to sit. "Nor should they."
The vice president and his wife, Jill, were hosting "the first major event"
in their Naval Conservatory home: a Global Race for the Cure kickoff dinner that
drew about 300 guests, including Serbia's Crown Prince Alexander Karageorgevitch
and Princess Clairy Karageorgevitch; Mayor Adrian Fenty and his wife, Michelle;
and a slew of diplomats.
Beneath a 50-by-90-foot white tent that kept the rain at bay, the
comfort-food menu included hamburgers, veggie burgers and hot dogs, steamed new
potato salad, watermelon, arugula salad and a summer quinoa salad -- topped off
with ice cream sundaes. And in keeping with the event's color theme, pink-tie
servers poured a 2008 Sofia Rosé and pink lemonade.
"This is real. This is personal. This is more than just one of these
political things we do," said the veep, speaking of the couple's longtime
commitment to fighting breast cancer. Jill Biden called her husband "a great
partner in this," and asked everybody to show up at today's race with their
sneakers on.
Nancy Brinker, founder of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, which is in
its 20th year, said: "We do know this disease does not end at our borders. . . .
We will create a pink culture around the world."

Dr. Jill Biden, Serbian Prince and Princess, Amb. Brinker, Celebrities
They came to honor a loved one, to celebrate survival and to make an impact in
the fight against breast cancer, both here in the Washington, D.C. metro area
and across the globe. In the end, nearly 45,000 people participated in the 20th
running of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® in Washington, D.C., which was
rebranded as the Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure® this year to highlight
the growing breast cancer crisis worldwide. And in spite of the economy, today’s
event raised $4.3 million to fund breast cancer programs for the medically
underserved throughout the National Capital Area and abroad.
In addition to the name change, today’s Komen Global Race incorporated a new
look, feel and Race day experience, aimed at creating a more personal,
educational and interactive event. The morning’s festivities, emceed by CBS’s
The Early Show anchor Maggie Rodriguez and W*USA’s Andrea Roane, opened with a
parade of more than 3,600 breast cancer survivors, including 21 survivors from
18 countries, who marched into the mall between twin stages to a live
performance of ”Pink Warrior,” an inspiring new song by singer/songwriter Candy
Coburn.
Dr. Jill Biden, a long-time advocate for breast health education and wife of
Vice President Joe Biden, thanked participants, telling them that they are
"paving the way for a breast cancer-free world through their efforts."
Following Dr. Biden, Ambassador Nancy G. Brinker, who founded Susan G. Komen for
the Cure more then 27 years ago as a promise to her sister Suzy, who died of
breast cancer at age 36, charged up the crowd with her inspirational story and a
call for each participant to find a way to make an impact on this deadly
disease. ”Without a cure, in the next 25 years, an estimated 11 million will die
from the disease worldwide. That's more than AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria
combined. We can stem the tide of the growing crises; we can share what we have
learned; we can end breast cancer forever, all around the world. And with each
of us doing our part, we will.”
The emotional opening program concluded with the ”Ceremonial First Steps” taken
by Dr. Biden, Ambassador Brinker, HRH Crown Prince Alexander II and HRH Crown
Princess Katherine of Serbia, Komen president and CEO Hala Moddelmog, actress
and Susan G. Komen Passionately Pink for the Cure ambassador Sarah Chalke, and
Komen’s 2009 Survivor of the Year Sara Fought. Adding to the impact of the
ceremonial first steps, Komen Circle of Promise Ambassador and singer Lalah
Hathaway performed a tribute to the runners and walkers. The opening ceremony
climaxed with the placing of a seven-foot pink globe, symbolizing the
organization’s worldwide commitment to a cure, on a platform above the starting
line.
Finally, in a partnership with MGM studios, the Pink Panther started the Race,
unleashing the throng of runners eager to make their impact. After the Race
start, the Pink Panther spent the remainder of the morning with Kids for the
Cure®, Komen’s special Race day program for children ages 5-12.
Thanks to the Global Race, Komen is able to impact the lives of breast cancer
patients in the National Capital Area as well as women across the globe. Up to
75 percent of Race revenue will stay in the D.C. area to address breast cancer
disparities for the medically underserved. Thanks to funds raised by the 2008
Komen National Race for the Cure, Komen was able to invest $3.7 million this
year to fund community health initiatives that address unmet breast health needs
in the Washington, D.C. area, which includes parts of Virginia and Maryland.
The remaining 25 percent will go to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Global
Promise Fund, which addresses breast cancer incidence and mortality outside the
United States with culturally sensitive education and outreach programs.

Race For The Cure, Unifest Participants Flood Washington
WASHINGTON - The reprieve from the wet weather allowed people to get out and
about Saturday for the first time in a while, and there were plenty of events
going on around town to keep everyone busy.
Tens of thousands of runners and walkers have participated in the first-ever
Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure in Washington.
Formerly known as the Susan G. Komen National Race for the Cure, Saturday's
was the 20th such event in the nation's capital aimed at fighting breast cancer.
The 3-mile loop around the National Mall included participants from 18 countries
and raised $4.3 million.
Tisha Hodge's family knows all too well what it's like to live with breast
cancer -- both her and her sister have battled the disease.
"I had it and now she has it the exact same type I had gotten in 2003," Hodge
said.
Now, a survivor, Hodge was just one of more than 50,000 runners and walkers
to flood the streets of Northwest this morning for the global Race for the Cure.
The shift to a "global race" aimed to spotlight the growing breast cancer
crisis worldwide. Officials estimate that 1 million women in the world will be
diagnosed this year with breast cancer.
"It's just important that we pick up this cause and carry the banner of
cancer research," Hodge said.
"I think everyone is sticking together to try and find a cure to stop this
before it continually grows," Terri Allen, a walker, said.
Among those attending the race were Vice President Joe Biden and his wife,
Jill Biden, as well as Sarah Chalke of the TV series "Scrubs."
This year's breast cancer survivor of the year was Sarah Fought of Chevy
Chase, Md.
Across town a different kind of unity - a celebration of community at the
26th annual Unifest.
"It feels like a family reunion, it's a lot of people I haven't seen in some
years," said Paul Spires, SE resident.
Spires came to the day-long event filled with face painting, music and plenty
of security. As part of the Metropolitan Police Department (web | news) 's all
hands on deck initiative, officers lined the streets.
Just two years ago the celebration was interrupted when 30-year old Tonya
Bell plowed into the crowd at 70 miles per hour. This year the streets were
blocked off to vehicles, and event organizers are focusing on the community not
the crime.
"There are things we can do east of the river that were very positive and
we'RE not letting that go we're beginning to rebuild on that philosophy and
theme," said Vernon Hawkins, exec. director Unifest Foundation.
In Southeast, food was one of the hot items at Unifest, there is funnel
cakes, chicken and ribs, something for everyone. Unifest runs until 8 o'clock
tonight.
