“JEDINSTVO” – Pristina

Interview of HRH Crown Prince Alexander II

UNITY SAVES SERBIA

We have to work as a united nation and we have no other choice but to move forward to the benefit of our people. I am deeply concerned about Kosovo and Metohija and enormous sufferings that our people are going through. Kosmet is in our harts and the reality there represents a shock for each civilized person.

HRH Crown Prince Alexander II Karadjordjevic represent the only solution for a large number of the citizens of Serbia, although monarchy has not been officially reestablished. The return of the monarchy is certainly one of the options and for some the only solution that can take Serbia out of the constitutional and political crisis. Our deputy general manager Mrs. Rada Komazec talked with HRH Crown Prince Alexander II Karadjordjevic about the importance of monarchy, parliamentary crisis and Kosovo and Metohija.

• What is it like to be at home, after so many years of exile?

It is wonderful to be home. My dream finally came true to come back to my roots and the land of my forefathers. I was emotionally coming to the home of my grandfather King Alexander I and King Peter II. My father has speoken to me often about his youth and how he was torn away from his home.

• How are the failed presidential elections going to reflect on the international position of Serbia?

The failed elections have sadly cast a cloud of doubt over our country. The positive thing is that we do not have riots and broken shop windows, but we lack a positive image abroad. We need to work very skillfully on our image abroad as we need to work on a stable democratic future. What everyone domestically and internationally is looking for is stability that opens the door to investors and partners. People want security, jobs, good social services and a normal life.

THE KING REIGNS AND THE GOVERNMENT RULES

• In what way would monarchy, i.e. you as a monarch, defend democratic processes and improve the image of Serbia in Europe and in the world?

In the European Union Republics and Constitutional Monarchies work hand in hand for all citizens of the European Union. Our country would benefit greatly from Constitutional Monarchy as the Monarchy is neutral and respects all citizens and all political parties. The monarch is the symbol of unity and stability, and is not a member of any political party therefore standing firm for the democratic process. In a Constitutional Monarchy the Monarch reigns and the government rules and parliament is elected in free and air elections. Most certainly the image of country would improve both domestically and internationally as in the case of all the Constitutional Monarchies such as Spain, Belgium, Holland, Japan, Norway, Australia, Sweden, Canada etc.

VIOLENCE MUST BE PUNISHED

• Is coexistence and reconciliation of the Serbs and the Albanians in Kosovo and Metohija possible?

It can only be possible if the reality of the European Union is closely examined in that peaceful coexistence within all member countries is the norm of the day. Kosovo is close to our hearts and the reality of what is happening is a shock to all civilized people. Our government must work daily hand in hand with the international community always firmly standing up for security, human rights, dialogue and the rule of law. Terrorism, murdering and all acts of violence must not be tolerated and must be punished.

• Do you think that parliamentary monarchy would create stability, unity, progress and the future of Serbia?

Constitutional Parliamentary Monarchy has been clearly proven to provide stability, progress and democracy in United Kingdom, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, Spain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand etc. This would be the case for Serbia. Take for example Spain that was dictatorship and under the Constitutional Parliamentary Monarchy became a great democracy and a member of the European Union.

• How would the reestablishment of the monarchy reflect on the State union of Serbia and Montenegro?

Within the European Union, Republics and Constitutional Monarchies work daily hand in hand for the common good. This would be the case for Serbia and Montenegro.

DIPLOMATIC STRUGGLE FOR KOSMET

• What would be the position of Kosovo and Metohija in monarchy and in what way would you solve the long existing drama of Kosovo and Metohija?

I am deeply concerned about Kosovo and the tremendous pain our people are suffering. We have to be strong and defend our rights and continue to firmly demand that our people live like the people in the European Union. Human rights must be strictly observed and violators must be strictly punished. In a Constitutional Parliamentary Monarchy it is the government that rules, the Prime Minister and his cabinet run the country, but does not mean that the monarch abandons the principles of democracy and what is right and what is right is security for the people, democracy and human rights.

• In what way can we prove to the world that the Serbs are victims in Kosovo and Metohija and that decisions must not be brought without consent of the Serbs, even decisions of the special representative of the UN Secretary General ?

For a start we must have a strong united government in Belgrade that nurtures its relationship with the international community using the western techniques of lobbying and public relations to the highest extent. We will not get anywhere without proper lobbying by professionals and an agreed plan. Our citizens have been the victims of poor leadership in the past, sanctions, isolation and criminal bombing, but now is the time to rally everyone to conquer the world with a coordinated positive campaign to win the west over. We cannot constantly dwell on our pain, because we owe it to our people to create a great future and better conditions for everyone. The creation of jobs and better social services throughout South Eastern Europe will have a very positive effect, but that needs resolve and hard work within the government ranks and parliament and the international community.

TOGETHER IN WORK AND RESPECT

• Is it difficult to uproot the long existing irresponsibility and the remnant of the undemocratic system in Serbia?

We are capable as people to overcome all problems providing we work together and respect each other. We have lost so much time and there has been so much pain. Everyone knows that we cannot afford to waist any more valuable time. We have work as a united nation and have no choice but to move ahead for the good of our people. Our future government will have a big task, but it can be done – emphasized HRH Crown Prince Alexander II Karadjordjevic.

• In your contacts with European monarchies and other state officials, do you point at the suffering of the Serbs and the destructions of a European culture in Kosovo and Metohija?

Yes I do and stronger than you can imagine. I was impressed by a brochure about the destruction of churches entitled Crucified Kosovo. I was not impressed by the title as a westerner would have only clearly understand a bold title such as The Destruction of Churches in Kosovo, I repeat The Destruction of Churches in Kosovo. One has to be clear and straight to the point – said HRH Crown Prince Alexander II Karadjordjevic for “Jedinstvo” from Pristina .
