Thanks to Princess Katherine Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic received a valuable gift

TWO MILLION EUROS EQUIPMENT

Consortium to construct operation ward established

Thanks to energy and efforts of Princess Katherine and her Foundation, the Institute for Gynecology and Obstetrics of the Clinical Center of Serbia is slowly changing its dilapidated look. To avoid any misunderstandings, there were many donors before Princess Katherine who used to aid our biggest maternity ward. What this all is about, is explained by Prof. Dr. Nebojsa Radunovic, general manager of this institution, broadly known as “GAK” (Ginekolosko Akuserska Klinika)

- It was thanks to the Princess’s persistence, above all, that a consortium was established made up of 12 construction companies, led by ‘Energoprojekt”, who will construct a new operation ward. That means operation rooms with intensive care units, reconstruction of the maternity ward and reconstruction of the Caesarian section ward. The agreement was reached after the equipment worth two million Euros came from Japan, donated by the Japanese Government, and it could no longer wait construction and other conditions.

Besides, Princess Katherine has connected the experts from “GAK” with the experts in Indianapolis, through mediation of her Foundation that has its branch in New York. They have met twice already and preparations for the next meeting in June, when joint activities in specific projects should be agreed, are in progress.

First their delegation came in December, and we went there on 12 January this year, to the University of Indianapolis and their famous “Riley” hospital, says Dr. Aleksandar Ljubic, the assistant general manager. The colleagues there have shown special interest in the projects regarding congenital anomalies and in fertility problems in our countries. We also received the two million Euros worth donation, which is a complete equipment from one of their gynecology and obstetrics hospital, with no machines older than five years. In addition, 60 ultrasound machines, for which we only need funds to pay for the transportation. Anyway, we don’t need that many ultrasound machines, which means some other of our hospitals will have them. And a part gynecology and obstetric equipment that we have, too.
