MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR HM KING ALEXANDER OF YUGOSLAVIA
Topola, 9 October 2011 – On behalf of His Royal Highness
Crown Prince Alexander II, Mr. Miodrag Savicevic, member of the Crown
Cabinet, laid a wreath on the tomb of HM King Alexander I of Yugoslavia
today in the Mausoleum of the Church of St. George in Oplenac. The memorial
service was served by His Grace Bishop Jovan of Sumadija, and after the
service which was well attended by citizens of Topola and Sumadija who came
to pay respects to the Late King, wreaths were also laid by representatives
of the Municipality of Topola, Foundation of HM King Peter and associations
of citizens.
HM King Alexander I of Yugoslavia was assassinated in
Marseille during a state visit to France on 9 October 1934, together with
the French Foreign Minister Louis Barthou. HRH Crown Prince Alexander II is
a grandson of HM King Alexander I of Yugoslavia the Unifier. |
