ROYAL COUPLE AT SAINT SAVA CHURCH IN LONDON
Belgrade, 29 January 2012 – Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine attended yesterday the Holy Liturgy and cutting of the Patron Saint day cake at Saint Sava Church in London. The Holy Liturgy was officiated by Their Graces Bishop Dositej of Great Britain and Scandinavia, and Vicar Bishop Andrej of Remesiana and the clergy of Serbian Orthodox Church in the United Kingdom.
The Church of Saint Sava in London is the main and biggest Serbian Orthodox Church in the United Kingdom. It was built in 1903 as an Anglican church, and later on it was given to the Serbian Orthodox Church. In 1952 the Church was consecrated by the famous Serbian theologian and scholar, the Saint Bishop Nikolaj Velimirovic. Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander II and Crown Princess Katherine were married in this church in 1985. The funeral of Her Majesty Queen Maria of Yugoslavia (grandmother of Crown Prince Alexander and widow of His Majesty King Alexander I of Yugoslavia) took place in Saint Sava Church in 1961. Also the funeral Her Majesty Queen Alexandra of Yugoslavia (mother of Crown Prince Alexander and widow of His Majesty King Peter II of Yugoslavia) took place in 1993 in the same church. |
