NEW DONATION OF HRH PRINCESS KATHERINE FOUNDATION TO THE CLINICAL CENTRE “DRAGISA MISOVIC” AND THE OPENING OF THE “SMALL FAMILY HOME IN ZAKLOPACA”

Belgrade, 20 November 2004 – HRH Crown Prince Alexander II and Crown Princess Katherine have donated today valuable medical equipment to the Clinical Centre “Dragisa Misovic” and opened the “Small family home”, in Zaklopaca. Their Royal Highnesses were accompanied by Lord Janner, http://www.greville-janner.org.uk/index.html, a member of the British Labour party.  He has come to Belgrade as guest of Their Royal Highnesses.

Their Royal Highnesses, together with Lord Janner, have paid the visit to the Clinical Centre “Dragisa Misovic” first.  They were welcomed there by the Director of the hospital, Doctor Sasa Bajec. The donation of the respirator for the intensive care, 15 000 euros worth, was provided by the Foundation of HRH Princess Katherine in cooperation with Mrs. Denise Hales,  an American of the Serbian origin and a friend of Their Royal Highnesses. Princess Katherine then wished the present all the best in their future work and emphasized:

“Let this apparatus help your hospital and those who need this kind of help the most. As a patron of this hospital I will continue to help you. My husband, Crown Prince Alexander and I are going to continue bringing people of good will, eager to help us, our children and our people. I am certain that this donation will enable you to deal with problems in your compassionate work, by using this apparatus and your knowledge and skills.”

Afterwards Their Royal Highnesses and Lord Janner have opened in Zaklopaca, near Belgrade, “Small family home, Compass – the programme of self-care”, adjoined centre of the center for protection of babies, children and youth in Zvecanska Street”. This project is supported by the Found for the social innovations, Ministry for work, employment and social issues of the Republic of Serbia and the Foundation of HRH Princess Katherine.  The project was also supported by the “Lifeline humanitarian organization”, Toronto office, whose patron is Princess Katherine, and Lay couple, who have been helping Zvecanska center through the Foundation of Princess Katherine over three years. The guests were welcomed by Mr. Milacic, the home Director, and Mr. Samardzija, Home Deputy and the Coordinator of the project.

“Today, we are opening Family Home adjoined with the centre for protection of babies, children and youth. This is a completely new project which is supported by Found for the social innovations, Ministry for work, employment and social issues of the Republic of Serbia and my Foundation. Children and youth are our future, and we have to take care of them seriously. They are the treasure of our country and we are obliged to provide them with good conditions for their living, studying and playing.” The Princess said in her speech.

Afterwards, the Princess thanked all the people of brave and charitable heart who had helped this benevolent project come true.  She said that she hoped that the children in this home will find warmth and love, peace and tranquility.

Their Royal Highnesses then toured the home with the guests.  They also took this opportunity to take photographs with the children who live in the “Small family home”.
