MORTAL REMAINS OF THE SUPREME LEADER

Belgrade, 5 September 2005 – His
Royal Highness Crown Prince
Alexander II, attended today with
academician Matija Beckovic, member
of the Crown Council, The Divine
Liturgy with memorial service for
THE Supreme Leader Karadjordje, in
the Church of Saint George at
Oplenac.
The Divine Liturgy and memorial
service on the 75th anniversary of
the transferring of the mortal
remains of the supreme leader of the
First Serbian Uprising was served by
the Bishop of Sumadija Jovan with
clergy of the Oplenac archdiocese,
accompanied by the choir “Oplenac.”
The Divine Liturgy was also attended
by: Mr. Miladin Gavrilovic, director
of the Memorial complex “King Peter
I”, Mr. Dragan Jovanovic, city mayor
of Topola, Mr. Cedomir Stevanovic,
president of the Association “The
First Serbian Uprising”,
representatives of the Association
of Liberation Wars 1912 -1918
Tradition Keepers, as well children
from the primary school
“Karadjordje” from Topola.
On the occasion of the
commemoration, in the tower of
Karadjordje’s lodgings, an
exhibition of photographs of the
transferring of the mortal remains
of the supreme leader Karadjordje
from the Church of the Holly Virgin
(Karadjordje’s church) to the Church
of Saint George at Oplenac in
September 1930 was opened.
Mr. Gavrilovic, the director of
the Memorial complex “King Peter I”,
addressed the guests, and stressed
that this exhibition should remind
us of the unfulfilled wish of King
Peter I that all the deceased
descendants should rest at Oplenac
and that this should be an
obligation for all of us.
Crown Prince Alexander then
addressed the guests and stressed
that the mission of the supreme
leader is not over yet, and that it
is extremely important that, our
generations, while keeping the
memory of the past and respecting
it, work in the interest of our
future, and that all their forces
should be directed toward European
integration. In this manner, the
commemoration in the organization of
the Endowment “King Peter I” in
Topola was officially closed.
