THEIR ROYAL HIGHNESSES MEET NSW
GOVERNOR, VISIT GREEK CHURCH SCHOOL,
CHILDREN HOSPITAL
Sydney, November 11, 2005 - Their
Royal Highnesses Crown Prince
Alexander II and Crown Princess
Katherine met today with the
Governor of New South Wales (NSW)
before attending the Remembrance Day
Commemoration and visiting a college
and a children hospital.
On the third day of their first
official visit to Australia, The
Royal couple accompanied by His
Excellency Milivoje Glisic, Serbia
and Montenegro’s Ambassador to
Australia and New Zealand had talks
with Her Excellency Professor Marie
Bashir, the NSW Governor, and her
husband Sir Nicholas Shehadie at the
NSW Government House.
Their Royal Highnesses and HE
Ambassador Glisic then joined HE
Marie Bashir in attending the
Remembrance Day Commemoration.
Later in the day, The Royal
Couple visited the Greek Orthodox
Church St. Spyridon College where
they discussed with their hosts the
possibility of having a sister
school in Serbia to this college
attended also by the Australian Serb
children.
The Royal Couple then visited the
Sydney Children Hospital Oncology
Ward where Crown Princess Katherine
gave the sick children drawings made
by Serb kids, the patients of the
Belgrade Oncology Clinic for
Children. Some of the sick children
presented Their Royal Highnesses
with their own works: drawings and
paper gift boxes.
Their Royal Highnesses also
visited St. Lazarus Orthodox Church
where they met with representatives
of the Serbian Church and Social
organisations. Amongst the guests
there were HE Ambassador Glisic and
Mr. Phillip Benwell, the Chairman of
the Australian Monarchist League.
Addressing the gathering, HRH
Crown Prince Alexander II said that
Serbia and Montenegro was a country
of great potential. ‘’People are
gifted and tolerant, people with
great traditions and a promising
future,” he said. Crown Prince also
said that our country and our people
are to a large extent still in need
of help.
‘’The aim is to bring assistance
directly to most endangered, the
children, sick, poor and old,” HRH
Crown Prince Alexander II said
speaking about HRH Crown Princess
Katherine’s Lifeline humanitarian
organisation and the Belgrade-based
Princess Katherine Foundation.
‘’With such an aim we are launching
here in Australia another Lifeline
office,’’ he added.
HE Ambassador Glisic said that
Their Royal Highnesses were the best
ambassadors of their country, while
His Grace Bishop Milutin told the
gathering that Crown Prince
Alexander’s message all the Serbs to
unite and help each other was the
same one the Serbian Orthodox Church
was sending.
Addressing Their Royal
Highnesses, Mr. Benwell said he
hoped the parliamentary monarchy
would soon be restored in Serbia.
