URGENT APPEAL FOR NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE CENTERS

RAISED OVER 660.000 EUROS 

Athens, 26 January 2006 – A very important charity dinner was organized by “Lifeline” Hellas Humanitarian Organization and the National Bank of Greece at the Megaron Mela in the presence and under the patronage of Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine. 

The aim of this humanitarian endeavour of HRH Crown Princess Katherine that Lifeline Hellas supported is to help reduce great shortages of vital importance in the hospitals of Serbia and Montenegro. This humanitarian event will benefit the urgent requirement to upgrade the Neonatal Intensive Care Units in the cities of Belgrade, Nis, Novi Sad, Kragujevac in Serbia and Montenegro. 

Every participant was asked by the organizers to donate 10.000 euros for the dinner for two in order to fulfil the goal of helping Neonatal Intensive Care Units in Serbia and Montenegro. 

Lifeline Hellas in cooperation with the Hellenic and Serbian Medical Organizing Committee are in charge of this project and believe in the need to urgently accomplish this essential task. Lifeline is very grateful for the support and interest both from the business community and individuals they gave to this important project dedicated save babies lives. 

The following addressed guests: Mr. John Trikardos President of the Board of Directors of Lifeline Hellas, Mr. Takis Arapoglou Chairman and CEO National Bank of Greece. The guests were also addressed by: HE Prokopis Pavlopoulos, Minister of Interior, Public Administration & Decentralization, Dr Aleksandar Ljubic, Deputy Director Gynecological Clinic Belgrade,  HE Dr Milan Parivodic, Minister of International Economic  Relations of the Government of Serbia,  HE Panos Panagiotopoulos, Minister of Employment & Social Protection HE Fani Palli-Petralia, Minister of Culture and HE Georgios Konstantopoulos Deputy Minister of Health and social solidarity. HE Marianna Vardinoyannis, UNESCO Ambassador of Good Will with her presence gave a sign of international support. Both HRH Crown Prince Alexander, welcomed the gala attendees and HRH Crown Princess Katherine gave a special flavour to this event with their speeches. 

Guests flowed into the magnificent classic hall of Megaron Mela, an outstanding location for this important evening, everyone had the pleasure to hear the Children’s Choir of National Opera of Greece and also watch a special Lifeline film depicting the current humanitarian situation in Serbia which is facing a tragic and serious situation with the highest infant mortality in Europe. 

On Megaron Mela humanitarian dinner 660.000 Euros (804.011 USD, or more than 57.090.000 SCD) were donated. This money will be used in order to upgrade the Neonatal Intensive Care Units in the cities of Belgrade, Nis, Novi Sad, Kragujevac in Serbia and Montenegro.
