International Women’s Day message from HRH Crown Princess Katherine

It is my great pleasure to extend my most sincere congratulations to all women of Serbia and Montenegro on the occasion of 8 March, International Women’s Day.

Women in our country are like ambassadors and heroes. They preserve their families and relationships in the days of greatest suffering, struggling to build a good future. Their additional battle for the place that women deserve in our society is an example of the independence that we have been aspiring to for centuries.

It is now time for all women in Serbia and Montenegro to step out from the past times of darkness and procure a more constructive and resolute role in the development of society, a role that was given to them by birth. Only then we will be sure that our country is continuing democratic reform and gender equality, the foundation of the kind of future women unquestionably wish to bestow upon their offspring.

There is nothing left to prove, it is clear that our women are equally capable of supporting the development of the country, simultaneously holding the duty of spouse, mother and friend.

I am sending to all the appeal to take a more active part in establishing the role of women in decision making and nation building. This is the theme of International Women’s Day, and is of key importance regarding equality in Serbia and Montenegro.

I congratulate all women in our country аnd express my admiration for their tolerance and endurance they have shown during the difficult times. Please remember I am always with you.
