STATEMENT OF HRH CROWN PRINCE
ALEXANDER II ON THE OCCASION OF THE
65TH ANNIVERSARY OF HM KING PETER II
ASSUMING FULL ROYAL AUTHORITY
On this very day 65 years ago in
the Kingdom of Yugoslavia my father,
His Majesty King Peter II, assumed
full Royal authority.
When the people went on the
streets to protest against the
signing of the Axis Treaty and to
support the assumption of full Royal
authority of my father what happened
was later misinterpreted and
misrepresented. In spite of great
popular support and throngs of
witnesses and documentary evidence,
this event of historical importance
was twisted, abused and
misinterpreted.
Thanks to the newly discovered
film material recorded in Belgrade
on 27 March 1941, today our people
will have the opportunity to see
first hand the truth of the events
that preceded the great suffering
our people experienced during World
War II, our Civil War and post-war
times.
I hope that other documents,
which surely exist, will be made
public so that we may all view our
true history as it really was.
History free of ideology, political
manipulation and attempts to rewrite
history to suit a minority abusing
power for their own end.
HRH Crown Prince Alexander II
