FAMOUS PLASTIC SURGEON VISITS BELGRADE

Belgrade, 7th April 2006 – A famous name of plastic, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery, Doctor Mimis Cohen, came from Chicago to Belgrade with the support of the Foundation of HRH Crown Princess Katherine, presented results of his mission in the University Children Clinic in Tirsova Street.

Doctor Cohen, a professor at the University of Illinois, Chicago and Chief of reconstructive, cosmetic and plastic surgery clinic, operated in Belgrade three children with harelip and cleft palate.

Professor Doctor Zoran Krstic General Manager of University Children Clinic and Professor Doctor Dragan Zamlakar Head of Plastic and reconstructive surgery department at the Tirsova Clinic expressed their gratitude to Professor Cohen and to the Foundation of HRH Crown Princess Katherine.

Professor Cohen emphasised that he learned about health problems of the Serbian children thanks to HRH Crown Princess Katherine and her continuous efforts to help children in our country.

With harelip and cleft palate operations performed on three children by Doctor Cohen, young patients made their first step toward resolving their birth defects and health problems.

Harelip and cleft palate are unfortunately a common anomaly found around the world: one out of 750 children is born with this physical disorder and every 20th patient has an additional physical anomaly. Such patients require multidisciplinary medical care up to their 18th birthday. Last year at the University Children Clinic in Tirsova Street 105 cleft palate patients were operated on.

Doctor Cohen plans to continue his cooperation with HRH Crown Princes Foundation and University Children Clinic in Tirsova Street.
