CROWN PRINCE AT PREMIERE OF
DOCUMENTARY “FORGOTTEN GRAND PRIX”
Belgrade, 17th April 2006 – His
Royal Highness Crown Prince
Alexander II attended tonight
premiere of documentary film
“Forgotten Grand Prix”, directed by
Dinko Tucakovic. Premiere has been
held at Cultural Centre of Belgrade
Hall.
This extremely interesting
documentary film is about the only
great, world-class car race held in
Belgrade on 3rd September 1939, at
the beginning of World War II.
Historical curiosity is that on the
day race Great Britain and France
declared war to Germany.
“Forgotten Grand Prix” was really
forgotten for number of reasons:
Communist regime kept this as a
secret for various causes: first of
all, His Majesty King Peter II, at
that moment Crown Prince attended
the Grand Prix. Besides, many
participants of the Grand Prix were
from the Nazi countries. Therefore,
communists decided to push the
remembrance of this event to
darkness, as all the other memories
about the quality of life in Kingdom
of Yugoslavia.
After the premiere, Crown Prince
Alexander II emphasised that he
liked the film (in which he appeared
as a narrator as well) very well:
“I am glad that so many people
are interested in such a
documentary. My father, His Majesty
King Peter II told me that Belgrade
was back than a centre of Europe,
and that greatest drivers of the era
were participants of this race.
Unfortunately, we have been waiting
so long to see this part of our
history”, said Crown Prince
Alexander II in conversation with Mr
Dinko Tucakovic, film director.
