EASTER MESSAGE OF HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS
CROWN PRINCE ALEXANDER II
We are approaching Easter, the
holiest Christian time, the time
when we celebrate victory of life
over death and of the eternal over
the temporal.
Easter reminds us who we are and
what are we, it warns us that we are
not alone on this Earth, that we are
part of common and unique history,
that we are God’s children, and that
Christ’s sacrifice is both a pointer
and invitation to liberate the good
that reposes inside us, for our sake
and for the salvation of all.
Our greatest enemies live within
ourselves, and the victory over that
internal darkness constitutes a
prerequisite for our survival and
progress. These are not empty
phrases within resounding words, it
is the truth that was always
contemporary, notwithstanding ages,
a truth no less actual today that it
was in the times when Jesus walked
the waves of the Sea of Galilee, or
when Prince Lazarus met with his
choice at the Field of Kosovo, or
when Insurgents assembled in Orasac.
Very long, too long, our
temptations are taking better part
of the time that is granted to us
upon Earth. From Easter until next
Easter and from misery to disaster
and from one disgrace to the next
scandal, we are moving inside a
vicious circle created by the lack
of knowledge and lack of wisdom. It
cannot be broken if one creates and
piles up new prejudices on top of
old ones. One needs courage and the
will to discontinue and to throw off
the chains that bind us to the
heritage of demagoguery that
constitutes the original source of
our past, present and future
problems; we have to dress the
vestment of humanity before we
attempt to adjust the world to the
measure of our weaknesses.
This time, as so many times
before, I stress that being pro
democracy in our public and
political life does not impose the
question of validity of good or bad
political choice, but rather the
method to achieve the greatest
benefit for all and the sundry.
Democracy is not a substitute for
faith, nation or politics; it is the
way of accommodating various
interests without, in return,
rejecting own nation, forgetting
ones origins and roots or submitting
common welfare to selfish profit.
Democracy is not perfect, but it is
so far the best and only method to
save our country and secure our
place in the world.
It has been so long time since we
experienced our Golgotha! There are
too many Pilates inside us and
around us! But after Pilatus, after
Golgotha, comes the Resurrection and
life advances. The future is ours.
Let our hearts be high!
Christ is risen!
He is risen indeed!
