ROYAL COUPLE RECEIVE BELGRADE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Belgrade, 12th May 2006 – Students from various Belgrade Gymnasiums visited today The Royal Compound and met with Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander II and Princess Katherine.

Crown Prince Alexander opened a friendly conversation with the students, and emphasized the importance of quality education for the future of our youth:

“I am glad that you are decisive in your intention to continue with your education and to stay in Serbia. Our country has a future only and if young, educated, and capable people are ready to give their contribution to the homeland and are willing to stay here. This country has a lot of problems, but this country is in a desperate need for more experts. I have been working in the West and I know that you have to do your best in order to achieve something. Therefore, I am telling you that there are those who will take this country into the developed world. And they are among you”, stated Crown Prince Alexander II to the students of Belgrade High Schools.

Princess Katherine also gave her support to the young people and emphasized that her husband and she are constantly working on improving the conditions of work and life for students. The Crown Princess announced that the traditional Best Students Reception would be held 22nd June at The White Palace.

The visit to The Royal Palace and meeting with the Royal Couple was organized by the High School Students as a part of the President’s People’s Chancery project called “Support for the Student Parliaments of Gymnasiums and High Schools”.

As his own contribution to the popularization of the Parliamentary idea, the Crown Prince gave to every student a copy of Spanish Constitution that could be a raw model for the future Constitution of the Kingdom of Serbia, and as an important source for the research of history of Parliaments in Europe.
