HRH Crown Prince Alexander’s Statement about the UN Special Envoy
Mr. MARTTI Ahtisaari’s Remarks
Belgrade, 29 August 2006 - His Royal Highness Crown
Prince Aleksandar II expressed his deep regret and dissatisfaction with the
recent statement of Mr. Marti Ahtisaari about the alleged collective guilt
of the Serbian nation.
Mr. Marti Ahtisaari commented last week that the Serbian
people are at fault for the current situation in Kosovo, as they are the
historical successors of the Milošević regime.
Such statements really do not contribute to a just and
fair outcome of the talks concerning the future of the southern Serbian
Province, and creates understandable doubt regarding impartiality and good
intentions of the International Intermediaries.
In delicate and complex issues where the international
community engages in order to reach a satisfactory solution for all involved
parties and to avoid the escalation of hatred and justification of violence,
we are entitled to expect high international officials to act with restraint
and wisdom. Unfortunately, in the case of Mr. Ahtisaari such expectations
proved to be wrong.
HRH Crown Prince Alexander II fully supports Serbian
delegation in their effort to achieve best possible solution in negotiation
process for Serbian people in Kosovo.
