THE CHANCELLERY OF
H.R.H. CROWN PRINCE Alexander II
OF YUGOSLAVIA

ANNIVERSARY OF HM KING PETER II BIRTHDAY

Belgrade 6 September 2006 - On this very day 83 years ago, His Majesty King Peter II was born in Belgrade. The father of HRH Crown Prince Alexander II became King when his was eleven, after the assassination of HM King Alexander I in France in 1934. When Nazi forces attacked Yugoslavia in 1941, King Peter II was forced to leave the country.

“The life of my father was a hard one. After the World War II the Monarchy was illegally abolished by the communist regime and my father was forced to continue his life in exile. Many times my family was wrongly blamed by communists for everything that went wrong in post-war Yugoslavia, and that gave much pain to my father.

Despite the lies from the Tito’s Government, King Peter II who was illegally deposed never abdicated. My father had a lot of love for our people in his heart. That is why my aim is to return my father’s remains to homeland, where they should be, and I hope that he will soon find his peace in the St. George Mausoleum at Oplenac”, stated HRH Crown Prince Alexander II on this occasion.
