
The Death of Her royal Highness Princess Olga of YugoslaviaIt is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the death of Her royal Highness Princess Olga, the widow of HRH Prince Paul Karageorgevich of Yugoslavia, GCSK, KG, who passes away in Paris yesterday, October 16, 1997. Price Paul, the only son of HRH Prince Arsen Karageorgevich of Serbia (brother of King Peter I of Serbia and Yugoslavia), was Prince Regent of Yugoslavia from 1934 to 1941. Princess Olga was born at Tatoi Palace near Athens on June 11, 1903. She was the eldest of three daughters of HRH Prince Nicholas of Greece and Denmark (brother of King Constantine of the Hellenes) and HRH Princess Helena, the only daughter of Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich Romanov of Russia. Princess Olgaís wedding to Prince Paul took place in Belgrade on October 1923. The best man was the Duke of York, later King George VI, with his consort Elizabeth, now the Queen Mother.HRH Prince Paul and Princess Olga had three children. The middle one Prince Nicholas was killed in a car crash near Windsor in 1954. The eldest HRH Prince Alexander lives with his family in Paris, while the daughter HRH Princess Elizabeth lives in New York. Princess Olga will be remembered for her beauty and charm as well as the unseparable companion of her husband Prince Paul who was destined to carry the heavy burden of ruling Yugoslavia in the period before the Second World war.
