THEIR ROYAL HIGHNESSES MESSAGE FOR INTERNATIONAL DAY
OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

Belgrade 2 December 2006 - On the occasion of 3 December, The International Day of People with disabilities, Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander II and Crown Princess Katherine extended their sincere support to Mr. David Lance Clark, UN Development Programme Resident Representative and Ms. Sladjana Markovic, Assistant Minister in the Serbian Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Policy, for efforts they are making to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities in our country.

"Persons with disabilities make up the largest minority group in our country, estimated to encompass approximately 350,000 people. They are disproportionately poor, are more likely to be unemployed, and all too often they do not enjoy the full spectrum of civil, social, educational and economic rights. Therefore, our society has to put more efforts in providing barrier-free environment, and to support people with disabilities to realize their full human and professional potentials for the benefit of the society as a whole" - pointed out Their Royal Highnesses on the occasion of December 3, the International Day of People with disabilities.
