HRH CROWN PRINCE ALEXANDER EXTENDS CONGRATULATIONS
FOR WOMEN’S INTERNATIONAL DAY

Belgrade 7 March 2007 - His Royal Highness Crown Prince Alexander II extended his congratulations for International Women’s Day 8 March to the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Serbia Mr. Lance Clark.

This year’s topic for Women’s Day: “Ending Impunity for Violence against Women and Girls” is of utmost importance for Serbia, not because this evil is present in our country as others, but because even one case of such violence is too much and completely unacceptable. Such cases have to be fully condemned and assistance provided to the victims, by the joint action of the authorities, social networks, NGOs and international agencies. Only then we can hope to eliminate such hideous conduct.

I deeply appreciate the efforts of the United Nations in Serbia, and among them especially the UN Development Program in the field of promotion of gender equality and support for human rights of marginalized groups, such as girls and women victims of violence. I hope the UN agencies will continue to support the government institutions and the civil sector in their initiative aimed at promoting women’s rights and their full participation in all segments of the society.

My wife, Crown Princess Katherine, her Foundation, and I, stand ready and always willing to provide support to the UN’s mission, for the ultimate benefit of all the people of Serbia” – said Crown Prince in his letter.
