EASTER CHARITY HANDICRAFT BAZAAR UNDER THE PATRONAGE OF
HRH CROWN PRINCESS KATHERINE
Belgrade 8 March 2007 – Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince
Alexander II and Crown Princess Katherine opened today the Easter Charity
handicraft bazaar in Progres Gallery in Knez Mihajlova street.
This is the 20th time that a humanitarian bazaar is organized
with the aim of helping women refugees from Bosnia and Croatia and internally
displaced persons from Kosovo who have been trying for years to sustain
themselves and their families by producing these beautiful handicrafts.
“I’m very pleased to have the opportunity to welcome you here
on International Women’s Day. The handicrafts you will see and hopefully
purchase represent the homeland of these brave women, thus preserving the
tradition in the most beautiful way. Our women have proven to be the foundation
of our Country. They have managed to preserve their families many times during
our history, while at the same time struggling for a better future” – pointed
out Crown Princess Katherine in her speech.
On this occasion HRH Crown Prince Alexander II wished to all
the women a happy holiday, International Women’s Day and successful bazaar.
Afterwards, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of
Serbia, Mrs. Natasa Vasic welcomed the participants and expressed his gratitude
to HRH Crown Princess Katherine and her Foundation for organising this event,
and to all those who made an effort to make it a success.
HRH Crown Princess Katherine then cut the ribbon and
pronounced bazaar open.
After the official opening all those present enjoyed the
presentation of the First Belgrade high school ethno section performing
traditional ethno songs from Kosovo and Sumadija.
Among the attendees at the official opening there were also
representatives of Embassies in Serbia, Non-Governmental Organizations and
Foundations, representatives of media and a large number of citizens.
Bazaar will be held through 11 March, open daily from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
