THEIR ROYAL HIGHNESSES ATTEND SPASOVDAN PROCESSION
Belgrade, 17 May 2007 – Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince
Alexander II and Princess Katherine attended today, on Holy Ascension of Our
Lord Day – Spasovdan, the Patron Saint Day of Belgrade, the Liturgy in the
Church of Ascension, and the traditional Spasovdan Procession.
The host of this year’s Slava of the City of Belgrade was
City Architect Mr. Djordje Bobic, and the Holy Liturgy at the Church of
Ascension was served by Bishop Atanasije Rakita. Apart from Their Royal
Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander II and Princess Katherine, the ceremonial
marking of Spasovdan was also attended by Mrs. Radmila Hrustanovic, Deputy Mayor
of Belgrade, City Hall officials and numerous citizens.
The procession started at the Church of Ascension in
Gepratova Street, down to Kneza Milosa Street, Kralja Milana Street, followed by
the first prayer at the Terazije fountain. The procession then continued in the
Knez Mihailova Street, then Kralja Petra Street, to the Main Orthodox Cathedral,
where the second prayer was held. After that, the procession followed in the
Kneza Sime Markovica Street, and ended in the port of the Church of Ascension
where a church service was held in memory of the victims of the Nazi bombings,
who died here on 6 April, 1941.
Their Royal Highnesses will attend tonight the reception in
the City Hall, to mark the Patron Saint Day, or Slava of Belgrade, hosted by Mr.
Nenad Bogdanovic, the Mayor of Belgrade. |
