THEIR ROYAL HIGHNESSES ATTEND FILM PREMIERE ABOUT KARADJORDJE

Belgrade, 26 July 2007 - Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander II and Crown Princess Katherine accompanied by Mr. Miki Savicevic, member of the Crown Council continued to mark the events dedicated to the memory of Karadjordje this evening by visiting the Pokajnica monastery and attending the film premiere of “Black Dawn”.

Their Royal Highnesses were warmly greeted by Mr. Dejan Sulkic, president of the Municipality of Velika Plana who was their host for the rest of the evening. They visited the Pokajnica monastery. History noted that Vujica Vulicevic, the man who assassinated Karadjordje in 1817, built a year later a small wooden church which he called Pokajnica ("the church of repentance") and which later became a monastery.

The film "Black Dawn" (Crna zora) premiere was in the open. The film, made by the NG Team, depicts Karadjordje's last days and his assassination, on this day 190 years ago. The event was held at Radovanjski Lug, the very place where the father of modern Serbia was assassinated. Many famous Serbian actors star in this film: Ivan Vuckovic as Karadjordje, Igor Damjanovic as Prince Milos Obrenovic of the rival dynasty, Dragan Nikolic as the Conscience of Karadjordje, while Petar Kralj is the narrator .

Crown Prince Alexander was very touched and in his speech after the film, he said: "My wife and I are honoured to be with you here this evening. It was with great excitement that we saw this film, which is about the last days of my ancestor the Serbian Supreme Leader, Karadjordje. We are even more excited because the premiere was held in Radovanjski Lug, the very place Karadjordje was assassinated, on this day, 190 years ago. Karadjordje had made a path for others to follow, a path for a modern Serbia, after a very difficult period. In a similar way, today we are following a repenting spirit and creating a new Serbia, a Serbia that will treasure its past, but will also build a better and more stable future for its children".
