RECEPTION IN HONOUR OF PARTICIPANTS OF 6TH INTERNATIONAL
ENVIRONMENTAL CONFERENCE
Belgrade, 10 October 2007 – A reception was organized this
evening at the White Palace, in honour of the participants of the 6th
International Environmental Conference, which is being held in Belgrade, dubbed
“Environment for Europe”. The reception was attended by Bozidar Djelic, Deputy
Prime Minister, Kori Udovicki, Regional Director of the United Nations
Development Programme for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States,
many international and domestic officials, representatives of non-government
organizations, as well as public personalities of Serbia.
The first to address the present was Bozidar Djelic, who
pointed out that the International Environmental Conference is held every fourth
year, so it is very important for Serbia to host this big international event.
The guests were also greeted by Kori Udovicki, who emphasised the importance of
sustainable development and the protection of the environment.
Since Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander II and
Crown Princess Katherine were not able to attend the reception due to previously
accepted obligations abroad, Dusan Babac, member of the Privy Council, greeted
the guests on their behalf, wished them welcome, pointing out that today, we
should all be aware of the importance of environmental protection, and the
necessity of active participation of each and every one of us, to contribute to
its sustainability, since this will be one of the major issues of the 21st
century.
The goal of the Environmental Conference is to determine the
direction of conducting the environmental policy for the next five years in
Europe and the world, and Serbia, as the host of the Conference, has a goal to
position its place in the field of environmental protection, on the regional and
world level.
Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander II and Crown
Princess Katherine traditionally support international conferences and
initiatives of the Government of Serbia that promote our country. That is why
the reception for the participants of the International Environmental Conference
is an opportunity for distinguished foreign guests to get to know other
potentials of Serbia, as well as its rich historical and cultural heritage. |
