THEIR ROYAL HIGHNESSES AT THE HANUKKAH CANDLE LIGHTING
CEREMONY
Belgrade, 10 December 2007 – Their Royal Highnesses Crown
Prince Alexander II and Crown Princess Katherine were honoured to attend this
evening a reception and traditional candle lighting ceremony to mark Hanukkah, a
great Jewish holiday that lasts for several days. The ceremony was held at the
Residency of the Ambassador of Israel and hosted by His Excellency Mr. Arthur
Koll, the Ambassador of Israel to Serbia.
Jews light Hanukkah candles (Hanukkah Menorah) to remember
the miracle of the Maccabees' victory and the miracle of the oil that burnt for
eight days in the holy Temple. This is the most important part of the ceremony
of the entire Hanukkah.
Their Royal Highnesses deeply believe that tolerance and
respect among different religions is not only possible, but it is also a
prerequisite for our country to enter the European Union. Their Royal Highnesses
are deeply committed to promoting religious and all other forms of tolerance. |
