CANCER IN SERBIA
Belgrade, 10 December 2007 – Their Royal Highnesses Crown
Prince Alexander II and Crown Princess Katherine attended tonight at the Crystal
Ballroom of the Hyatt Hotel an event dedicated to 80 years of fighting cancer in
Serbia.
Today is the 80th anniversary of the Yugoslav Society for
Studying and Curing Cancer and the 40th anniversary of The Serbian Society for
Fighting Cancer.
The event was organised under the patronage of Mr. Boris
Tadic, the President of Serbia and was also attended by prominent oncology
experts from our and the neighbouring countries, representatives of the
Academies of sciences, professional organisations, the media, and others.
On this occasion, HRH Crown Princess Katherine greeted the
present and said: “My husband and I deeply respect your endeavour in preventing
and curing this mean disease, as well as educating our citizens. Prevention is
our strongest weapon. My Foundation and Lifeline Humanitarian Organisation are
trying very hard to bring the best world experts here, so that they can exchange
experiences with our doctors”.
The Crown Princess also announced activities of her
Foundation as regards cervical cancer and breast cancer prevention, and added
that the Royal Family will always continue to try and help in this matter as
much as possible.
HRH Crown Prince Alexander also greeted the present and said
that the patrons of the Yugoslav Society for Studying and Curing Cancer, which
was the fourth such Society in the world, were King Alexander I and Queen Maria
of Yugoslavia – his grandparents.
The marking of the 80th anniversary of fighting cancer in our
country is an opportunity for the public, the general population, health
institutions and medical workers, as well as the media and the Government to
become more aware of the significance of the problem of maligned diseases, and
also to point out the possibilities of their prevention. |
