STATEMENT OF HRH CROWN PRINCE ALEXANDER II ON THE SITUATION IN THE COUNTRY

Our country and its institutions are in a deep crisis.

That crisis is a result of the events in the past and the current international circumstances. The outcome could be fatal for our state and national interests. That could have long lasting negative effects on the social, political and economic life. The consequences could also be fatal when our future path and the future of our people are at stake.

That is why it is my obligation to react publically!

I hereby remind the bearers of state authority that they have been elected on their posts. They - not I, and not someone else! That is why they must take full responsibility for their actions. I am sure that everyone will act in accordance with the Constitution. Not only that: they have an obligation to think about the future and the perspective of development of our society. The interest of any party or coalition can not be more important than the interests of the people and the state.

All bearers of executive authority have, at the beginning of their mandates, publically stated and supported several principles. The first two principles on the list are:

The preservation and defence of the state entirety and sovereignty, and joint actions in that regard, The European future of Serbia; close, friendly relations with Russia and other countries; and being in peace with the neighbours. Of course, all this is done with the aim to advance the economy, health care, human rights, the rule of law, education, et cetera.

In short – for the better future of all our citizens, regardless of ethnic origin or religious viewpoints.

I am sure that we all agree on these objectives and I am ready to mediate, if that is wanted. We need harmony and unity in action.

Today I appeal to all political factors and I want a better present and a better future for each and every one of our citizens. We all love our Serbia. We are proud of it. We should not compete whose love is greater. Unity and common interest is the key to solving these difficulties. I deeply believe that all political factors, both in power and the opposition, should act together. We have no more time to waste. Because of the present and in the name of the future, while remembering the past!
