THEIR ROYAL HIGHNESSES ATTEND 200TH ANNIVERSARY
PROGRAMME FOR BELGRADE UNIVERSITY
Belgrade, 13 September 2008 – Their Royal Highnesses
Crown Prince Alexander II and Crown Princess Katherine attended a
multi-media, drama and musical programme this evening at the Sava Centre, on
the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the University of Belgrade.
Opening speeches were delivered by Professor Dr. Branko
Kovacevic, Rector of the University of Belgrade, and Mr. Boris Tadic,
President of Serbia.
Guests were entertained by the following choirs: Obilic,
Spanac, Collegium Musicum, led by Darinka Matic - Marovic and Nenad
Vukmirovic with the opera perfomances of known sopranos, baritones and bass.
Also taking part in the programme were well known actors Predrag Ejdus,
Mihailo Janketic, and others. The programme focused on excerpts from the
work of many Serbian historical figures – Dositej Obradovic, Vuk Stefanovic
Karadzic, Stevan Stojanovic Mokranjac, Josif Pancic, Jovan Cvijic, Nikola
Tesla, Mihajlo Pupin, Milutin Milankovic, and Ivo Andric. They left a
lasting mark on the development of Serbian sciences and culture.
The event was also attended by Dr. Mirko Cvetkovic, Prime
Minister, Mr. Ivica Dacic, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of
Interior, Mr. Bozidar Djelic, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration
and Minister of Science and Technological Development, Mr. Dragan Sutanovac,
Minister of Defence, Prof. Dr. Bogoljub Sijakovic, Minister of Religion, Dr.
Zarko Obradovic, Minister of Education, Mr. Nebojsa Bradic, Minister of
Culture, Mr. Radovan Jelasic, Governor of the National Bank of Serbia,
representatives of religious communities, and other personalities of the
Serbian public life. |
