ROYAL COUPLE AT CELEBRATION MARKING 60TH ANNIVERSARY
UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS
Belgrade, 10 December 2008 – Their Royal Highnesses Crown
Prince Alexander II and Crown Princess Katherine were present today at a
celebration marking the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of
Human Rights - Five Steps in Combating Discrimination in the Republic
Square, Belgrade
Mr. Svetozar Ciplic, Minister of Human and Minority
Rights, Mr Lennart Kostalainen, Representative of UNHCR, Ms. Judita
Reichenberg, Representative of UNICEF, HE Mr. Josep M. Lloveras, Head of the
Delegation of European Commission to the Republic of Serbia, as well as the
representatives of vulnerable groups and the civil society took part in the
event.
During the event, the Delegation of the European
Commission in the Republic of Serbia signed 22 contracts with the
non-governmental organizations that took part in the Call for Proposals
under the program European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights
(EIDHR).
One of the key objectives of the celebration was to
strengthen the role of civil society in promoting human rights and
democratic reform, in supporting conflict prevention and in consolidating
political participation and representation. |
