AMBASSADOR BRINKER PRESENTATION FOR MEDICAL
PROFESSIONALS AT THE WHITE PALACE
Belgrade, 13 May 2009 – HE Ambassador Nancy
Brinker from the United States, founder of “Susan G. Komen for Cure
Foundation”, HRH Crown Princess Katherine, Dr Tomislav Stantic,
State Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Prof. Dr Dragana
Jovanovic, City Secretary of Health of Belgrade, held a press
conference today in the White Palace about fighting the breast
cancer.
After the press conference , Ambassador Brinker
made a presentation about “Imagine life without breast cancer” for
over 150 physicians who came from all health institutions of Serbia,
and talked about her experience in working for the prevention of
breast cancer for over 25 years. “Susan G. Komen for Cure
Foundation” was founded in 1982, and has raised over $1 billion for
the prevention and research of breast cancer.
In her speech Ambassador Brinker said: “I have
been deeply honoured to visit Serbia as the guest of Her Royal
Highness Princess Katherine, who is such an exceptional role model
and a true agent of change in so many ways. She is not someone who
is satisfied with the status quo, and her dedication and outlook are
amazing. Because the truth is that it is sometimes very difficult to
work in this field: it is a world full of human tragedy, pain and
heartbreak. As we saw in the film, it is still a world full of
misunderstanding and global ignorance. Despite all we’ve done, our
first challenge is still at the beginning: to teach societies about
the basics; to break the dangerous but stubborn cultural taboos
about this disease”.
The first results of the cooperation among “Susan
G. Komen for Cure Foundation” and Lifeline Humanitarian
Organization, whose patron is HRH Crown Princess Katherine, as well
as the HRH Crown Princess Katherine Foundation in Serbia, is the
training of four technicians from Serbia at Memorial Sloan-Kettering
Cancer Centre in New York, one of the most prominent health
institutions in the world in the field of breast cancer treatment,
worth $25,000. |
