ROYAL COUPLE VISIT SMEDEREVO HOSPITAL AND
ATTENDED 140TH ANNIVERSARY OF “VOZD KARADJORDJE” PRIMARY SCHOOL
Smederevo, 23 May 2009 – Their Royal Highnesses
Crown Prince Alexander II and Crown Princess Katherine visited today
the Health Centre “Sveti Luka” in Smederevo where they delivered two
oxygen pumps and six wheelchairs. Following that Their Royal
Highnesses attended the 140th anniversary of the Primary school
“Vozd Karadjordje” in Dom Kulture in Malo Orasje near Smederevo.
At the hospital, Their Royal Highnesses Crown
Prince Alexander II and Crown Princess Katherine were welcomed by
Mr. Predrag Umicevic, Mayor of Smederevo, Dr. Nenad Djordjevic,
deputy director of the Health Centre “Sveti Luka” and Mr. Slavisa
Peric, principal of the Primary school “Vozd Karadjordje”.
Princess Katherine mentioned in her speech: “It
is a great pleasure to be here with you today to deliver this
donation provided by my Foundation. I would like to use this
opportunity to thank US Steel and Mr. Matthew Perkins for being our
partners and helping us in the reconstruction of this hospital four
years ago. This project renovated the Units of Gynaecology, Surgery
and Internal medicine which very much improved conditions and the
standard of medical services”.
Their Royal Highnesses then attended the
traditional festival of Strawberries which was opened by His Royal
Highness Crown Prince Alexander II.
Their Royal Highnesses attended than the 140th
anniversary of the Primary School “Vozd Karadjordje” where they were
welcomed by Mr. Slavisa Peric, principal of the Primary school “Vozd
Karadjordje”, as well as teachers and pupils.
The Crown Prince delivered the speech pointing
out the importance of education and the role of primary educational
institutions in providing the right approach for the children for
their future schooling.
At the end of their visit to Smederevo, Their
Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander II and Crown Princess
Katherine visited the Church of Saint Apostle Bartholomew. |
