Belgrade, 27 August 2009 – On behalf of HRH Crown Prince Alexander II, Mr. Dragomir Acovic, member of the Privy Council laid a wreath at the Monument of Duke Sima Markovic, in Veliki Borak, Municipality of Barajevo at the suburbs of Belgrade.

This year’s commemoration was organized by the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy and the Municipality of Barajevo. There were also present representatives of Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces, City of Belgrade, and several non-governmental organizations that keep the tradition going of Serbian liberation wars.

On 27 August, 1805 Serbian rebels led by Karadjordje formed the first executive body of new Serbian authorities during First Serbian uprising in the house of Duke Sima Markovic in the village of Veliki Borak near Barajevo. Besides being the first Serbian Government, this body took the role of the first court of justice in Serbia that was trying to break free from Ottoman Empire.
