CROWN PRINCE ALEXANDER AND MEMBERS OF THE
ADVISORY BODIES OF THE CROWN EXTEND THEIR CONDOLENCES REGARDING
THE PASSING OF ACADEMICIAN MILORAD PAVIC
Belgrade, 30 November 2009 – His Royal
Highness Crown Prince Alexander II and members of the Advisory
Bodies of the Crown announced with great sorrow that Academician
Milorad Pavic, member of the Crown Council, member of the
Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts has passed away today in
Belgrade.
Academician Milorad Pavic, was born 15
October 1929 in Belgrade, was one of the most popular and most
important Serbian writers of the 20th Century, he was a member
of the Crown Council since 1991, the same year he was elected a
full member of Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. Academician
Milorad Pavic was awarded the most prestigious Serbian literary
awards, such as the NIN award in 1985; Mesa Selimovic award in
1988; National Library of Serbia award in 1988; Borisav
Stankovic award in 1992; the Golden Medal Felix Romuliana in
1992; the October award of the City of Belgrade in 1992; the
Prosveta award in 1994; the Stefan Mitrov Ljubisa award in 1994;
the Kocic award in 1994; the Vuk Karadzic award in 1996; the Ivo
Andric award. He had an honorary PhD from Sofia University, and
was President of the Serbian – Ukraine Society and the member of
the Societe Europeenne de Culture.
Academician Milorad Pavic was an author of
one of the greatest and most translated novels of Serbian
literature of 20th Century – Dictionary of the Khazars.
The death of Academician Pavic is an enormous
loss for our culture, our literature and Serbian society, as
well as to all of us that knew him and had the privilege to be
his contemporaries.
