HRH PRINCESS KATHERINE VISITS CITY ORGANIZATION OLYMPIA FOR THE DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING IN BELGRADE

Belgrade, 5 December 2009 – Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Katherine visited today City Organization Olympia for the deaf and hard of hearing people in Belgrade and donated a computer.

At the ceremony which was organized for the activation of a football club for the deaf and hard of hearing people “Olympia”, HRH Crown Princess Katherine addressed the members of the organization and guests, and said: “All of our citizens, including persons with disabilities, must have the same rights and same opportunities. It is not only our obligation, but also our duty as the state and fellow citizens, to make it possible for them to be involved in all segments of society.”

Beside Princess Katherine speeches were also delivered by Mr. Aleksandar Radenkovic, couch and founder of the football club for the deaf and hard of hearing people “Olympia” and Mr. Igor Jankovic, representative of the Football Union of Serbia.

The first football club for deaf people was founded within the Association for the deaf and mute people of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia in 1924. After the Second World War, this association expanded its’ activities to other sports, such as chess, athletics and bowling. In 1996 “Olympia” was registered as a City organization for the deaf and hard of hearing people of Belgrade for sports and recreation.
