HRH CROWN PRINCESS KATHERINE KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT FUNDRAISER
EVENT IN AID OF BREAST CANCER PREVENTION IN SERBIA IN INDIANAPOLIS
Indianapolis, 15 October 2010 – Their Royal Highnesses Crown
Prince Alexander II and Crown Princess Katherine were guests of honor at the
fundraiser organized by “Women Like Us Foundation” on Thursday in Indianapolis,
in order to raise funds for Lifeline Humanitarian Organization, which operates
under auspices of HRH Crown Princess Katherine, and breast cancer prevention
programs in Serbia.
Their Royal Highnesses came to the event accompanied by Mayor
of Indianapolis, Mr. Greg Ballard and his wife. Three hundred people welcomed
the Royal Couple as they stood to canters singing the Serbian national anthem.
There was a standing ovation after a thirty-some minute speech in which Crown
Princess had the audience captivated with her inspirational presentation -
having the participants both laughing and crying.
HRH Crown Princess Katherine said in her very emotional
speech: “My country Serbia is a country known for many things - a rich history,
wonderful natural beauty, a proud and industrious people. Unfortunately, it is
also known as a country with the highest mortality rate from breast cancer in
all of Europe. The toll of this disease on women and their families is
heartbreaking and real, made even more tragic by the fact that many of these
women might have been saved by early detection and early treatment.”
Dr. Sally Brown Bassett, president of “Women Like Us
Foundation”, said: "Their Royal Highnesses made a great impression on our city
as they did several TV and radio interviews giving updates specifically on the
health needs of Serbia. Crown Princess Katherine did an incredible job inspiring
a room of approximately 300 women with her passion and energy.”
TRH Crown Prince Alexander II and Crown Princess Katherine
also met with a group of doctors in Indiana who specialize in breast cancer. All
American doctors showed great enthusiasm to work with the medical professionals
in Serbia in the future, and to help them by providing special training in this
field and state of the art medical equipment.
Their Royal Highnesses, accompanied by Dr. Sally Brown
Bassett and Mr. Dennis Basset, have also met with Dr. Jeffry Patchen, president
and CEO of the Children's Museum of Indianapolis, the largest children museum in
the world, Mr. Simon Crookal, President and CEO of Indianapolis Symphony
Orchestra and Mr. Michael Crowther, President and CEO of Indianapolis Zoo |
