HRH PRINCE PHILIP RUNS FOR THE HANDICAPPED CHILDREN OF
GREECE AND SERBIA IN THE ATHENS CLASSIC MARATHON
Athens, 31 October 2010 - HRH Prince Philip, son of Their
Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine, great
grandson of HM King Alexander of the Hellenes and Aspasia Manos and godson of HM
King Juan Carlos of Spain, participated in Athens Marathon today.
The Athens Marathon 2010 is 2500th anniversary of the battle
of Marathon and the legendary run by Pheidippides from the Marathon Battlefield
to the city of Athens, in 490 BC.
HRH Prince Philip and his girlfriend Ms. Lucy Attwood
participated in the Marathon to raise funds and sponsors for Lifeline Hellas
Humanitarian Organization, whose patron is HRH Crown Princess Katherine, to help
children with disabilities in Greece and Serbia.
Prince Philip stated in his letter to donors: “Over the years
my parents have been working very hard with their humanitarian activities. I am
extremely proud of them and I am very impressed with Lifeline Hellas who has
been helping those in need in Greece and Serbia. On Sunday 31 October my
girlfriend Lucy Attwood and I will be running in the 2010 Athens Marathon and we
would be very grateful for your support. You can help Lifeline Hellas by
becoming a sponsor. The proceeds will go to children in Greece and Serbia with
serious handicap problems”.
HRH Prince Philip and the Royal Family would like to thank
Proton Bank, Hellenic Petroleum SA, OTE, Adidas, Junior KM Cards DOO from
Belgrade and many private donators from Greece and abroad for supporting this
noble cause. |
