ROYAL COUPLE DELIVER HUMANITARIAN AID TO THE PEOPLE OF KRALJEVO

Belgrade, 17 November 2010 – Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine visited the city of Kraljevo today and delivered humanitarian aid to the people endangered by the earthquakes. The Association Kingdom of Serbia accompanied Their royal Highnesses during this visit.

The Royal Couple first met with the Mayor of Kraljevo, Mr. Ljubisa Simovic, deputy Mayor Mr. Vukman Rakocevic and deputy president of the City Council Mr. Sreten Jovanovic in the building of City Assembly. Mayor Simovic said that the Crown Prince was among the first people that called after the earthquake and offered his help. Mr. Simovic gave the list of priorities for reconstruction to Their Royal Highnesses.

Afterwards, the Royal Couple visited the Church of Holy Trinity (Svete Trojice), since this church was badly damaged in the earthquake, and home of Saint Nikolaj, former Bishop of Zica and Ohrid, located at the park opposite the Church.

Their Royal Highnesses also visited the High School Kraljevo where they toured the building and met with the pupils and teachers. The Crown Prince gave three volumes of a book about HM King Alexander I for the school library. Then they have visited economic and medical high schools, that were also badly damaged during the earthquake, and pledged to donate furniture for these schools.

Their Royal Highnesses visited the Health Centre Studenica where they met with Dr. Dragan Arsic, Director of the Health Centre, medical staff and Red Cross representatives. The Royal Couple delivered bed linen, blankets, hygiene items and washing powder, antiseptic gels and soaps, epidemiologist protection masks and shampoos and shower gels for children. This donation was provided thanks to Red Cross Organisation from Greece and Sumadija Lek – Alapis Company.

Princess Katherine said: “My husband and I are here today to help the people of Kraljevo in this sad moment. We cannot influence natural disasters, but we can and have to show solidarity when people are endangered. Serbia sympathises with you and please know that my husband and I care for you”.

The Royal Couple met with the Mother Superior at the Zica Monastery who showed them the damage the earthquake caused. The special service was served at Zica Monastery for victims of earthquake.

The Crown Princess Katherine’s Foundation already delivered humanitarian aid last Saturday thanks to the support of the Royal Warrants: Coca Cola Hellenic Serbia, Klas-Pekarska Industrija Beograd, Sumadija lek- Alapis doo, Hotel Yugoslavia, as well as various donors from Greece, among who were companies Antenna and N. Papastolou.
