emotion and gratitude that I learned about the decision that the Assembly of
City of Nis decided to add my name to the list of the awardees of this
prestigious Prize. For many, many years my husband, Crown Prince Alexander and I
have been working to help all those in need in Serbia. We are not doing it for
the sake of politics, self-promotion or public promotion, but because it is our
duty as human beings and citizens of this country. In times of crisis we have to
be united and to show solidarity, especially for all those who suffer from
illness, natural disaster or some other misfortune. We shouldn’t forget that a
someone's misery is a misfortune of the entire community, and that a child’s
tear should prompt us to ask why it is crying and how we can help it.”
Besides Princess Katherine being awarded there were also Prof
Dr Stojan Bogdanovic, Professor at the University of Economics in Nis, Mr Perica
Donkov, Professor at the University of Arts in Nis, the late Petar Seratlic,
lawyer and sportsman, the team of doctors from the Department of Cardiology at
the Clinical Centre in Nis and the Scout Association of the city of Nis.
