THE CHANCELLERY OF
H.R.H. CROWN PRINCE ALEXANDER II
OF YUGOSLAVIA

TEN YEARS OF THE CROWN COUNCIL

Celebrating session presided by
His Royal Highness Crown Prince Aleksandar II

On “Sretenje” 1992, counseling bodies of the Crown were renewed; Crown Council and Privy Council. Crown Prince Aleksandar II was in exile at the time, and “Sretenje” was not the State holiday.

Ten years of the Crown’s Counseling bodies’ work coincided with the tragic decade in our recent history. At the time when solutions were sought even where they couldn’t be found, establishing of the Crown Council reminded that there is a century-long institution of this nation,  one that it was illegally deprived of , and which Europe recognizes as part of its own civilization.

People outside political parties, from the country and the Diaspora were named for the Crown Council:  Mr. Ivan Antić, SANU, Mr. Matija Bećković, SANU, Mr. Živojin Bumbaširević, SANU, Mrs. Svetlana Velmar Janković, Prof. Dr. Slobodan Vitanović, Mr. Dragomir Vitorović, SANU, Mr. Miroslav Gašić, SANU, Mr. Aleks Draganić, SANU, Prof. Dr. Dragoljub Kavran, Mr. Dušan Kovačević, SANU, Prof. Dr. Nikola Moravčević, Prof. Dr. Pavle Nikolić, Mr. Milorad Pavić, SANU, Mr. Predrag Palavestra, SANU, Mr. Slobodan Perović, SANU, Prof. Arch. Branko Pešić, Mr. Branko Popović, SANU, Mr. Mladen Srbinović, SANU and Prof. Dr. Đorđe Vid Tomašević. Through all these years the Council has remained together and unified. The Privy Council, whose  membership is not time limited, today consists of : Arch. Dragomir Acović, Prof. Dr. Dušan Bataković, Mr. Đorđe Novaković, and The Hon.Branko Terzić.

The Crown Council and Privy Council with sorrow and pride remember their deceased members : Mr. Borislav Pekić, SANU, Mr. Stjepan Dragojlović, Mr. Milorad Ilić, Mr. Borislav Mihajlović-Mihiz and Mr. Miodrag (Mića) Popović, SANU.

Long-term efforts of the Crown Prince Aleksandar II to unify Serbian democratic opposition, expressed particularly at the gatherings in St.Andrew, Banja Luka and Athens, were crowned in the democratic elections in autumn and winter 2000.

The session celebrating the tenth anniversary of establishing the Crown Council was held at the Royal Palace, on February 14, on the eve of “Sretenje”, that in the meantime became the State holiday, and it was presided, in his parents’ home, by the restorer of the Counseling bodies of the Crown, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Aleksandar II.
