H.R.H. CROWN PRINCE ALEKSANDAR II FORMALLY OPENS THE 51ST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF MEDICAL STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATIONS
His Royal Highness Crown Prince Aleksandar II accompanied by Their Royal Highnesses Crown Princess Katarina and Prince Filip formally opened the 51st General Assembly of International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations last night at the “Grand” hotel on Kopaonik. H.R.H. Crown Prince Aleksandar II and Princess Katarina are patrons of the 51st General Assembly of IFMSA held on Kopaonik from 3rd to 9th March this year with goal to establish medical students’ activities in the field of public health, and to develop unique global network of future health care workers. The host of this gathering is Yugoslav Medical Students’ Committee for International Cooperation (YuMSIC) that marks its 50th anniversary of IFMSA membership this year. This event, the biggest among the international medical students’ gatherings brought together about 700 delegates representing about 80 countries, members of IFMSA, and their faculties of medicine, as well as high representatives of almost all NGOs from the UN system that IFMSA has official relationship with. Opening the 51st General Assembly of IFMSA, Crown Prince Aleksandar II expressed his pleasure that after 10 years of isolation of Yugoslavia, Yugoslav Medical Students’ Committee for International Cooperation had the honour to organize this year’s Assembly. He also expressed his wish that this project helps promotion of cooperation of medical students in the field of public heath in the whole world. President of YuMSIC, Mr. Igor Barjaktarević, president of IFMSA Mr. Joel Cammeyer and vice-dean of Medical Faculty in Belgrade Prof. Dr. Savo Subotić that represented all Medical Faculties of Yugoslavia addressed those present as well. They emphasized the importance of this Assembly for the strengthening of cooperation between medical students and for the reputation of Yugoslavia in world medical circles.
